You may have heard us use the phrase, “Indirect Bond,” and thought it was just a foreign language like the rest of the orthodontic terms you’ve heard us use. Well, our use of the Indirect Bonding technique is one more step that Perelmuter & Goldberg Orthodontics takes to improve the orthodontic care we provide, and we are one of the very few orthodontic practices to use this cutting edge method of bonding the braces.
The more precision the brackets are placed on each tooth, the better the tooth moves and the faster the can proceed. That is why we use the indirect bonding technique: more efficient tooth movement; faster ; fewer appointments.
Direct bonding is the process of bonding each bracket on each tooth one at a time. When doing this for a few selected braces—like the upper front teeth for limited —direct bonding is fine. However, when bonding brackets on all the teeth, it is very difficult to position them precisely when the cheeks, tongue, lips and saliva provide significant obstacles, especially in the back of the mouth. Imprecise bracket placement results in more wire bending, more appointments and longer times.
With Indirect bonding, Dr. Goldberg or Dr. Perelmuter places the brackets on the models of the teeth using precision measurement tools. Transfer trays are then used to place the brackets on all the teeth in less time than placing each brace individually. Voila—great precision, less wire bending, fewer appointments and faster .
