Most retainers are removable, meaning you take them out when eating, brushing and flossing. That’s why they’re so easy to misplace! How often have you heard of someone wrapping his or her retainer in a napkin while they eat, only to forget about it afterward. As a result it ends up in the garbage or lost – and it can cost hundreds of dollars for a replacement.
A good way to lower the chances you’ll leave your retainer behind is to always keep your carrying case with you. Whenever the retainer is out of your mouth, put it in the case, and put the case in your pocket or purse or someplace where you won’t forget it. Keeping your retainer in its case is a good rule for anytime your retainer is out of your mouth, not just when eating. The last thing you want to do is leave it on the couch for the dog to use as a chew toy or to be sat on and crushed. Retainers are delicate and expensive so you want to make sure it’s safe and secure at all times!
If you have any questions about wearing or caring for your retainer, please don’t hesitate to ask the docs or any one on our team. We’re always happy to help in any way we can!
